My husband and I had been to all those open houses and talked to various building companies. Also we even had a meeting with a consultant to get some feedback on our worries, since building our own house might be the most expensive investment for the rest of our lives. (No, we are not millonaires.)
After we decided to go for HusCompagniet, we went to the local office where we live. The salesperson (Lars, hope he wouldn't mind his name was mentioned here..) was very straight forward with our questions. He was very helpful and ready to find solutions for us. He understood our limited budget, and gave us helpful guidlines of what we were choosing.
When the process started, it was a bit stressful. First, we had an architect and a construction manager (byggeleder) and both were changed. And they said we could move in before Christmas. It was September!
Also, I didn't know that much about those other companies which were hired to build all different parts, so when we were to the ground, there were always new people. Some couldn't communicate with us, because they didn't speck Danish or English.
BUT, our construction manager (Martin, hope he is also okay that I wrote his name here, too.) was always reachable on the phone, answered all those questions, and very quick to admit if there was something wrong. He didn't try to push us at all. We didn't have to argue to get things fixed. Of course, it could have been perfect, if there was no mistakes or errors on the house, but that sounds unrealistic, considering all those reviews and blogs I read about. We were more relieved that he was willing to fix any small things we pointed out.
The house was finished on time, even though they had to change a big part of the roof. When our consultant found out the roof should be fixed, Martin (byggeleder) checked it together. As soon as he realized it should be either fixed or changed entirely, he simply decided to change it all. He fired the company which built the roof, and he found the best to make another roof. (Well, sure why didn't we have that company to start with, but well I guess it was more up to the schedule they have. And also the most of cases, they know their partners' qualities. I think we were simply unlucky.)
When these people were there to fix, there were 5 vans with about 20 people at our ground. (I was there to take some pictures of the ground and the materials to check, but I was too surprised by the scene, I coudln't even leave my car.)
Yes, we were unfortunate with the roof, but it was changed and my consultant was also satisfied.
But, don't get me wrong. Most of the contractors or partner companies' workers were very nice. They were informative, and willing to answer those questions non-professionals like us would ask, even though their schedule was very tight and pressured.
We moved in just before Christmas (as planned), and there were some mistakes or adjustments needed.
We were very impressed how reliable Martin was! We called Martin, and even though he was at his company's Christmas party, he ANSWERED his phone, and FIXED the things for us. He sent some people to fix things in the same evening.
After Christmas- and New Year's vacation, we contacted Martin to ask some things we recognized during the vacation. We were not sure if they would come and fix those. I heard people saying like "Once you got a key, they never come back to fix things.", but we didn't have any problem. Martin even came by to check with us, and contacted all the partner companies to come and fix.
Today (17-01-2019) we had 4 different companies' workers came by and fixed all those small things. Some walls, small scratches or marks on floors and the kitchen table etc.
I will say, things can go wrong. Lars (the salesperson) told us, they are not perfect, but they will fix it until we are satisfied with the house. I don't know if it depends on which branch you will choose. It could go quite bad when they have that many contractors and partner companies. But with Lars and Martin in Herning, we have a very satisfying result.
